Anika Prather
Dr. Prather holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from Howard University, several graduate degrees in education from Howard and New York University, an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College (Annapolis), and a Ph.D. in English, Theatre, and Literacy Education from the University of Maryland (College Park). She self-published her dissertation, Living in the Constellation of the Canon: The Lived Experiences of African American Students Reading Great Books Literature, and speaks regularly on the topic of classical studies and the Black community. She also co-authored a book last year with Dr. Angel Parham entitled The Black Intellectual Tradition.
Dr. Prather has served in a variety of academic and administrative roles in K-12 and higher education. She has been a teacher, supervisor for student teachers, Director of Education, professor, and Head of School. Currently, she teaches in the English department at Howard University and works as the Director of High Quality Curriculum and Instruction at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy. She is also the founder of The Living Water School, a virtual, classically inspired school for independent learners, and The Living Water Center. In her free time, Dr. Prather is an accomplished musician, composer, and performing artist. She and her husband, Damon, live with their three children in Washington, DC.
